Sony put these DVDs out with as little cost to them as they could. I imagine they thought they wouldn't make any money off of them. The disc menus leave a lot to be desired. They are pretty much your run of the mill "I could do this at home with Nero or another burning program" menu. New Stories on "How Novel"

Hi all - Latest batch of stories are now up. Our featured author is Bruce Jividen, who added 5 stories to the Archive. Bruce also contributed his nifty section separator, which you'll start seeing elsewhere. Thanks Bruce! It's a rather eclectic collection this time, with some stories where Paul and Scott don't even appear, two by our first totally anonymous author, one somewhat out of season, three featuring the fictional version of a real life character, and one crossover with ROSWELL with a trace of THE X-FILES. I'm honored to include a story by the late Ken McDaniel, a longtime STARMAN fan, and officer of The Robert Hays International Fan Club (TRHIFC) who would welcome each first time visitor to a Family Con with their very own silver sphere. I still cherish mine. Ken also started providing tapes of the episodes long before DVD's even came out. Sadly, we're going to have a Dead Authors Society section of the Archive, but I'm happy we can capture their legacy. The over-aggressive spam detector on STARMANET

Mon 04-23-12 07:37 am Posted by Todd Andrews (starman(a)pobox.com) Hello All, STARMANET gets a LOT of spam that is (thankfully) automatically rejected, but lately it appears the detection algorithm is finding more "false positives" and asking people to put in a special code in the subject line and repost their message, or to ask that their whitelist their email address. This isn't happening to everyone. We've adjusted the tolerance level so that hopefully there will be fewer bounce messages on legitimate emails. Please bear with us as we figure out the best setting. If you continue to be plagued by these bounce messages (the subject usually says, "Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender"), please use your email software and click on the FORWARD button to send the entire bounce message to me, off-list, at: starman(a)pobox.com Until next time... Hi!! With the recent DVD releases of TV series from my youth like *LOGAN'S RUN*, *WAR OF THE WORLDS*, and *THE MAN FROM ATLANTIS*, I'm getting more than a little nostalgic. Back when I founded the fanzine *POWER STAR*, one of the TV shows I was getting fan fiction based off of was *STARMAN*. In fact, the very first program I recorded on my family's brand-new VCR was the premiere episode of *STARMAN* on September 19, 1986, and I co-wrote a *STARMAN* short story for *POWER STAR *that combined elements of the show and the original John Carpenter-directed movie (even had SETI's Mark Shermin from the film). Good times... Today, most sci-fi peeps I know who aren't *US* have either forgotten or dismissed the show but the loyals now have their wish - an official DVD release of the complete series - and as a fellow fan, I couldn't be happier. It's been a long while since I've sat down with *STARMAN* but I remember I was initially drawn by the *FUGITIVE*-style quest, complete with a dogged pursuer. But during the course of the 22 episodes, I ultimately became captivated by the strong father-son element, the thought-provoking scripts, and its embrace of human potential. While a departure from Carpenter's film (which I also love), I, like all of you, found the series to be well written and deeply moving, and *AIRPLANE*'s Robert Hays absolutely excelled in the childlike role of the alien.
