GREETINGS! from Vicki Werkley (and the rest of the Con Crew) (Apologies if you receive this more than once.) SO sorry for all the delays in my gathering and delivering of info to you. And, again, another today that'll probably postpone actual signing of the contracts until Monday. >:-( But I know you're all champing at the bit, so I'll just say this for now: Yes,the rooms are more expensive, and the bad news is: Though we were contracting for rooms at the Fairfield Inn (main bldg. of old Hacienda Hotel) at $139/night and the Aloft (South Tower of old HH) ---which is next door and where the Con Suite and Party will be--- at $159/night, the Fairfield still isn't finished and may not open in time. SO ALL the rooms may be at the Aloft and $159. A word to those who smartly shop around, I'm assured these rates will not be lower in any online/package deal. Certainly, you're free to stay somewhere else, but do compute your travel back-and-forth and your convenience when deciding. Vicki's and Liz's status

My report confirms what Bruce sent, except that Liz said the motel was in Lakeport. Vicki Werkley communicated with a mutual friend, who sent me the following info: Vicki and Liz Turner (with Vicki's husband Tom and their bird) got a motel room in Kelseyville after 3 evacuations. Downtown Lower Lake is not in good shape. The fire started about a quarter mile north of Vicki and as far as is known, her place is safe. On Sunday, the fire was moving toward Liz's (she is on Cache Creek above the high school). A neighbor reported that it looked as if Vicki's place was safe as of August 14 afternoon. The fire had gone off toward the north east where it would run into the area that burned last year. I don't have any further information yet about Liz's place. We can all hope her optimistic report to Bruce proves true. According to a news site, a man has been arrested and charged with arson in setting this fire as well as others over the last year... I'll let you know any updates I receive. -- Jean Laidig

Hi All, The news reports that fire has devastated Lower Lake. Does anyone have news about Vicki ? She has been relocated before, but this sounds very serious. We wish her well, but I feel worried. Hopefully someone has info as I assume she has no access to a computer at this point. Sharon Herden

So here we are. We have heard word that Vicki's street is in good shape. The fire started in a field behind the houses across the street from her. If anyone has seen the news you my know that the town of Lower Lake did not fare well as several business and residences were destroyed by fire. There have been over 175 homes destroyed between Clearlake, Lower Lake and surrounding areas. I have not received definite word on my house, but some information indicates my neighborhood has not been affected. Will post again when I have more info.
