Hi everyone,
In view of the short timeframe on this, I’m reposting for Margie, just in case her way of posting to Welcome-SSI@starmanet.com doesn’t work.
Who knew we may have actually had a reply from aliens back before STARMAN ever arrived? And for Charles Lietwiler and other science minded fans, Voyager 1 departing the solar system means it is still 85.9 light years away from Paul’s home star, according to the information on the SSI website putting Algeiba 86 light years away from earth. Guess Starman and his fellow blue lights found a floating cosmic string that just happened to be heading our way, hopping on or zipping through the “wormhole” and using their starship to conserve their own energy for tasks like cloning when they got here. Since Einstein postured that nothing can exceed the speed of light, some scientists have theorized that the speed of light could have been incredibly faster back at the time of the Big Bang, and remnant strings still exist in the cosmos today, thus preserving Einstein’s basis of modern physics, but enabling a rational way interstellar travel would be possible.
If anyone does feel like replying to our alien correspondents, hope you’ll share it with us here on Starmanet. But caution, since these dudes are not our friendly starmen from Algeiba, you may be communicating with those evil aliens that Stephen Hawking warns about!

Subject: A chance for Fans to send "greetings" into the Cosmos
Hello, Chuck asked me to send this along so fans could have a chance to have a “last word” instead of Fox’s cryptic comment. This is very time sensitive. Note from
the Fox News link that only Twitter responses posted between 8 PM this Friday June 29th and 3 AM Sat June 30 will be put together to make the reply message to “WOW”
You could either twitter how you personally would reply or perhaps a reply from one of the members of Paul’s Star Family. Here is the original e-mail
------------------------------------
A quick Hello to fellow star watchers in Portland. The Mountain is hiding in the clouds this morning. I had just sent off a comment to Chuck and Nina when I read the following article in the news.
I can hear Paul say to George Fox; “After all these years is that all you have to ask me?” Well here is our chance.
.
Speaking of advances in technology since the original Starman story aired, here’s a very interesting piece this morning and I note that they’ve been sitting on this since
1977! So along with the story writing contest perhaps some of the SSI fans might like to formulate a reply to the “Wow” message. Perhaps from the Next Generation’s
point of view. You also realize the original invitation that Starman got on that golden record is just now leaving our Universe. Voyager I is at the
threshold of the Milky Way galaxy heading for the unknown intersteller space It’s been 28 years since launch.
