Juanita Harrell's niece Pat Camm contacted Vicki Werkley to inform her that Juanita passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at her residence in Escondido, California. She was 94. Juanita was heavily involved in Spotlight Starman of Southern California and was a member of the convention crew for early STARMAN FAMILY-CONs. She was very good friends with John and Evie Hays, the parents of Robert Hays. Juanita was also one of the editors of the ENDLESSLY CREATIVE: SPOTLIGHT STARMAN COOKBOOK. I met Juanita the first time at the first STARMAN convention I ever attended, the 1990 Relaxacon in Los Angeles. (For the 1992 convention and all subsequent Los Angeles cons, the name was changed to STARMAN FAMILY-CON.) In particular, Juanita and Sharon Herden and I were up late one night and decided to grab a bite to eat. I remember how much I enjoyed talking to them, but mostly I was listening to their stories about STARMAN series trivia. Along with "Starman" enjoying his cool ride in the Tesla aboard the Space X rocket, there is a documentary out on the Voyager satellites commemorating the 40th anniversary of their launch, and the people behind it, some of whom are still managing the project today. Among the Stars: Deb Gallagher

Posted by Todd Andrews (starman(a)pobox.com) I am incredibly saddened to report that Deborah "Deb" Gallagher passed away at her Springfield, Oregon home on February 1, 2017. She was 66. She was a long-time member of Spotlight Starman International and attended several STARMAN FAMILY-CONs over the years. She was also one of the hosts of the two *STARMAN "The Return" Adventure* conventions held here in Portland, Oregon in 1991 and 1995. Deb did not have a computer for the last several years and I did not know she had an account on Facebook: https://facebook.com/deborah.gallagher.1272 Unfortunately, I know of no way to post messages on her Timeline unless her account can "friend" you first. I'm in touch with her brother Terry and will ask him if anyone monitors her account now, so that those of us who knew her personally can write on her Timeline, and her *many* relatives will know how much Deb will be missed.

George and Jill Wells will be available any weekend in October. I wasn't completely happy with the hotel's restaurant options or lack thereof. I think it might be good to arrange a field trip to another restaurant not within walking distance. We could either use the hotel van, taxis or carpool. We don't plan to get a car. I could try to find a few options via web search. Thanks for taking on the con. Jill

STARMAN FAMILY-CON

Just a preliminary notice for info about the next Starman Family-Con: The good news is that there will definately be a Family-Con this year. For those of you that may or may not know, Vicki Werkley is stepping down from the chair role and has asked me to take over the planning and logistics of the Convention. I am humbled in her faith in me and proud that after all these years we are still able to do this. We will maintain efforts to keep traditions alive and keep doing what we are doing. Any help or suggestions are welcome. Firstly, we are looking into hotels, but hope to be able to stay in the current setup if we can. Depending on pricing we will try to be at either the Aloft or the Fairfield Inn. Location wise these hotels are perfectly situated near the airport with Free shuttle service to and from the airport. It is also close to the train into town and Uber can be your friend if you would like to explore on your own We are currently looking for available weekend dates in October. if you could chime in here what works and what absolutely WILL NOT work for you, even if you are not sure you can attend. There is a poll on Facebook or leave a comment here. Also, if any of you still owe any fees from previous years from the "In Your Pocket Fund", please have those fees paid before planning to attend this years Convention. More information will follow as soon as we know something. We hope to see you there.
