New toy

Long story short - the pickup started having acceleration problems. It was diagnosed last Thursday as needing a clutch - about $1000 repair. The truck is 20 years old with almost 200,000 miles on it. It has a cracked windshield, body dents, leaks oil, and gets poor gas mileage (at least in my opinion). I decided it wasn't worth putting a $1000 into it, so today I bought a 2010 Nissan Versa. It has 70,354 miles. The above photo is my new car. I have more photos and more detail about it if anyone is interested. I copied all the stuff about the car from the dealer website so unlike when I took photos of the new truck and sent it to you all, I don't have to be the Paul Forrester. The one thing I'm mad at myself about is that last Wednesday I put $100 worth of maintenance work into the truck. Sigh....I knew I was taking it in on Thursday to find out why it wasn't running right so why didn't I wait to do that maintenance??????? I guess because I like to throw away money? I never made quick decisions so I hope this one was the right one. Effie

Hi all, This is a video of a cello quartet playing in the Chihuly Garden at Seattle Center. It showcases some of the sculptures. There is also part of the video that has clear glass in the background. I can't place it exactly but I know it is in Tacoma as you can see the Tacoma Dome in the background right at the start. The cables from one of the bridges is also a prominent Tacoma landmark. The location is probably the Museum of Glass (the courtyard where they are playing looks like it could be there) but I simply don't remember a clear glass exhibit there. Anyway, please take a look. For those of you that don't want to hear the cello music mute the sound. BTW - it's not a classical piece, but music from a Japanese movie. This group played during the taping of the radio program that I went to Tacoma to watch. And yet again explains why I continue to volunteer here in Toppenish even though the people in this office aren't the most pleasant to be around. A couple came in who were from Switzerland. He spoke very little English. He had a rental car that was giving him a message. He had me call Thrifty for him because he wouldn't understand on the phone. Long story short - the car rental people got someone on the phone who spoke French so he could get answers. Then I used Babelfish to ask him a couple of other questions. Thrifty told him he'd have to take the car back to Portland to get it replaced - not surprising - but through the computer translation I was able to ask him if he needed car service. That is why I enjoy doing this! Effie

I ran across this picture is a free magazine that is published for parents. We get bundles of them at the rail museum and I was passing the time looking through it. When I got to the picture on the last page I laughed out loud. Going online I found the electronic version of the magazine and send you guys the URL. http://www.playdateyakima.com/2014/05/07/gotcha/ The little girl is looking at a Fiesta Foods grocery ad. Is it any wonder I thought that might have been me??? I know I kept boxes of papers I'd cut out of magazines. Were they ads? I don't remember. Anyway, the picture made me laugh. I can read upside down also, just like this girl is doing. :) Effie
